Cover-Ups

I have been away for a while and I apologize for my absence but summer is a crazy time for me between working two jobs, trying to make it down to the beach (only happened for a week), and going to as many concerts as I can on my budget and in my free time. However, during my busy schedule I rather impulsively got another tattoo, but I still only have two.

The guy that did my tattoo (and I say guy specifically rather than artist) was doing drugs when he did my tattoo and didn’t do a very good job. He created a green bandanna which people mistook for a flower, a tongue, or even a female private part. To make things worse, he put spots in the background that I had no idea he was going to do. I don’t regret getting the tattoo for my friend Vinny who passed away, I do regret going to that guy though. My advice to you: don’t ever go to someone’s house to get a tattoo. Not only will you most likely not get what you want, but it could lead to infection. I was very lucky not to get sick.

So I got something that I never thought I would have to do: a cover-up. I was merely looking for ideas when I recalled a shop that I had

Dave Azma Knauer Tattoo

Dave Azma Knauer Tattoo

blogged about last fall called Sinful Art Tattoo in Vineland, NJ. I stopped in to see what could be done to my horrible looking bandanna, maybe make it look more like what it was supposed to be. The artist I spoke with discussed really turning it into a flower (people thought that is what it was anyway) but adding two more flowers on the side of it to make it look balanced. He told me the price and showed me the picture of the flower and before I knew it I was sitting in the chair with a needle in my skin.

Dave “Azma” Knauer did a beautiful job on the back of my neck. He managed to turn the dimensionless green bandanna into a red and silver flower. I would definitely go back and see him again for my next tattoo, even if it is about a 45 minute drive from my house. The outline hurt like a mother, but once he started in on the shading I felt like I was sitting in a vibrating message chair. I do wish that he would have went over the name and dates, but tattoo artists don’t like touching other people’s work unless they are covering it up. Normally people don’t compare getting a tattoo to a comfortable experience, but maybe I was just meant to have tattoos and they weren’t.

Tattoo Artist William Trask’s Tattoos

People say practice makes perfect, but when you have ten years worth of tattooing experience, I think you get the gist.

37-year-old professional tattoo artist William Trask of Premiere Ink Tattoo has been creating remarkable and unique tattoos on people ages 18 and older for well over a decade and the results are incredible.  The work he does on people can take an hour, maybe two, maybe even half a day depending on how much detail the work of art needs.  Trask is always more than willing to tattoo people well into the night and even into the next day if he has to or if the customer wants.  Who needs sleep when you can stay up at all hours tattooing some of the best work you ever did?

Most of the tattoos on Trask’s body are done by him as well, and if a he is confident enough to tattoo himself, then it would be difficult to not trust him to do yours.  It doesn’t matter what type of tattoo or where the tattoo is, Trask will tattoo anything on any part of someone’s body.

“On a daily basis, I tattoo anywhere from two to four tattoos.” said Trask.  “Some could take a half hour, some could take eight hours.  Details, size, custom designs where I draw directly onto the skin, that normally takes a lot longer.  The majority of the tattoos that I have been doing lately lasts anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half of pure pain.”

Trask charges $100 for every hour of tattoo work done and also sells gift certificates so for those people who do not necessarily have the funds to get a tattoo can have a little help with a certificate.  He also makes his own tattoo machines and sells them to other professional tattoo shops and companies as well.

Many people have gotten tattoos by Trask, including his wife Jennifer O’Neill Trask. She recently got a tattoo in memory of our friend Vince Pellegrino who passed away last month.  I plan on having my next tattoo in memory of Vinny when I stop being afraid of the needle.

”I got my tattoos done by my tattoo artist William Trask of Premiere Ink, “said 21-year-old Steven Wallenburg of Camden, NJ. “He is a very talented individual.  Currently I have 13 tattoos…my left arm is done from my shoulder down to my forearm.  My forearm is not done but it’s got the indents on both of the elbows done.  My right arm has my shoulder, my inner elbow, my forearm, I have one behind my ear on my neck.  I have one on my left leg and two on my right, and I think that’s it.”

People who would like to get a tattoo or who are just thinking about getting one can contact Trask by his facebook page or through his email.  Depending on his schedule, Trask can make an appointment with you as early as the same day you contact him but it is preferred that you give him at least 24 hours notice ahead of time.  Any time of the day works for him.

Video Interview with Tattoo Artist William Trask

Tattoo Artist William Trask of Premiere Tattoo was kind enough to let me interview him about his career and film him coloring 27-year-old Mike Grasso’s flower tattoo on his lower left arm.
